Vale Louise Massaria

The football community of Concord Junior Soccer Club and beyond have been shocked and saddened over the news that one of our life members, Louise Massaria, passed away last week. Louise was also the wife of long-serving Club Member and former President, Rocky Massaria and mother to ex-Concord players Paul and Christina.

Louise was quietly spoken and elegant in manner. She was involved with Concord JSC for many years having originally followed and supported the State League teams playing through the 1980’s and 90’s and assisting husband, Rocky, “behind the scenes” with the administrative duties associated with his managerial role involving those squads.

Almost simultaneously Louise took on the role of managing Paul’s junior team for a number of years and later encouraged her daughter, Christina, when she took up the sport of football in her teenage years in one of the Club’s earliest women/girls teams . Louise was elected to the Executive Committee of the Club where she served for a number of years and eventually was nominated and elected as a Life Member of the Club in the early 2000’s.

There was many an hour spent in the old red-brick canteen on Edwards Park serving the vast numbers of hungry players from teams across the Canterbury and District Soccer Football Association. Many a set of shirts washed and folded at home. Many a football match watched, wins celebrated, losses commiserated and all the while Louise maintained her well-groomed appearance and resolute, gracious manner throughout.

Louise’s contribution to our Club was substantial across a number of decades. The Executive Committee, members and players would like to offer their sincere condolences to Louise’s husband Rocky and her children Alan, Paul and Christina and families. May it serve as a comfort to Louise’s family at this sad time to know that Louise’s endeavours were much appreciated by all concerned.

John Tonkin on behalf of the CJSC community
